My and hardcover binding just don't get along very well. Granted this is only my second attempt at it; I just can't seem to get a grasp on wrapping a text block up with a hard cover. Somehow, somewhere along the way, the measurements end up being either 1/8th of an inch or even 1/16th of an inch shorter or taller. This was a trying project. It was also the first time I work with leather and certainly not the last. It was fun and a lot of hard work. I don't think my back ever protested as much as it did this time around.
It was a commission by my cousin for his friend; a gift for his birthday. He asked for a steam punk styled book that's made out of red and black leather. I did my best to deliver and he loved it. Despite its flaws, I love it too. I feel like I could have done better but then again, we artisans are always our worst critics.
